We are what we eat. You have probably heard this saying sometime. It certainly makes some sense as ultimately the food that we consume plays a critical role on our well being, our fitness and our body. Everybody wants to have a nicely toned and slim body, yet as we know statistics show shocking obesity rates. This shows that nutrition for weight loss is something that many people should place a good deal of importance on, as it is ultimately something that affects their lives.

From the lack of physical activities and tasks that they are able to do, to the way they look, and the possibility of diseases and conditions that could arise – a proper nutrition for weight loss is critical. Obviously the amounts you eat are important. You cannot over indulge yourself. There are certain recommended portions and calories intakes that will be according to your gender, age and level of activity. Try to be reasonable with the portions of food you eat, while diversifying foods in order to get a healthy amount of vitamins, minerals, proteins and carbohydrates.


It is also important to point out that the body also needs fats. In reality there are those which we call good fats and bad fats. The former, which are technically called monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, are needed so as to help in lowering blood cholesterol levels, triglyceride levels and as a source of antioxidants. Some foods that offer these fats include olives, almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and oils such as olive oil, canola oil and peanut oils.

A nutritious diet also needs to include a good amount of water. Water is crucial for our overall health, especially since it is a major component of our body cells and tissues. The body cannot store water and so it is important that we drink water throughout the day so as to replenish it. Sugar intake needs to be limited as much as possible. So beverages should be water as much as possible, and not sugary ones.

Apart from choosing food and drinks properly, we also need to make sure that we eat meals in a healthy way with regards to their timing, besides the portions. A proper breakfast is very important as it will help you to start off the day well while reducing the hunger pangs during the rest of the day. Any snacks should be small and well chosen, such as nuts, crackers, fruits, and salads.

Eating well is key in managing to maintain energy, strength and a healthy body. Thus proper nutrition is something that we need to focus on so as to improve our overall health and well being. Sticking to a healthy diet that enables us to get the required amounts of proteins, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates is of the essence. Our food choices matter, so let us do them wisely.
