How to lose baby weight

During the second and third trimester every pregnant woman puts on a considerable amount of weight. When the baby is born, the body will try to regain its previous state, but it is normal to have some baby weight still there. Losing weight after pregnancy is a common question posed by several new mothers. To answer this we shall elucidate how to get rid of baby weight hereunder.

  • Avoid dieting – now that you are a mum you need a lot of energy, and dieting is not recommended. You are currently stressed out more than usual as you try to get used to your new life minding and caring for your newborn, and if you deprive yourself of food you are going to end up worse than ever. Your goal should be to stick to healthy eating rather than dieting. A well balanced diet with a variety of nutritious foods will help you feel better and well nourished, and in time you will start to put off weight. It may take longer but it is better this way. It is also very important to point out that in case you are breastfeeding, dieting is not a good idea at all. On average 1800 calories a day are recommended for women in your age range.
  • Superfoods – you need foods that are rich in nutrients but relatively low in calories and fats. There are certain superfoods you could load up on to help you reach these goals, such as foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acid, like salmon and tuna. Milk and yogurt are recommended for their high amounts of calcium. You should also include a good amount of lean meat and chicken which are low in fats but high in fibre and proteins. Beans are also recommended.
  • Exercise – a good diet needs to be complemented by exercise. During your pregnancy you may have engaged in some exercises but due to your belly you could not move that much. Now you should make up for that, as it will also help you to put off baby weight more easily and quickly. It may be difficult to find the time to exercise with a newborn baby, but setting at least a quarter of an hour a day could work wonders. You could do some exercises on a treadmill while the baby is sleeping, or if you can have someone to take care of him for some time you could go for a brisk walk or jog outside. It will do you good to get some fresh air and it is a great way to relieve stress, apart from helping you shed those extra kilos.
  • Drink plenty of water – this is important for your metabolism, to keep you dehydrated, and also to help you feel fuller, while avoiding the likelihood that you opt for sugary drinks. There is nothing better than water when it comes to drinks.
  • Sleep – catching as many naps as you possibly can while your baby is sleeping is critical to have you strong and lively. This is imperative to enable you to keep up with your hectic motherhood role, and to have you feel energized enough to prepare healthy meals and engage in exercise.
