One of the most common New Year resolutions people make is to lose weight. Be it to look better or to manage to lose those extra kilos one has put on due to Christmas parties and dinners, it is a goal that is often considered to be rather hard to reach. For one thing, it is hard to lose weight, and for another, it is difficult to avoid putting it back on once you lost it.
This is something that disheartens people. Yet in reality there is no need to feel discouraged. If you adopt the right weight loss plan, and stick to it, you can lose weight successfully and keep it off too. How, you might be asking, can this be done?
First and foremost you need to be aware of your caloric intake. The weight that you put on is a direct result of what you consume. So, you need to reduce your caloric intake. You can still eat a lot, and even snack from time to time, if you stick to healthy foods. Try to make fruits, vegetables and nuts the main ingredients of your snacks. And to top that up keep your portions small, and your meals should always be prepared by you, not bought from a take-away or fast food outlet where frying is the norm.
Those are some basic rules with regards to food. Now, what about drinks? Avoid drinks that are not water! If only you drink water you would be benefiting in various ways, both healthwise as well as to lose weight.
Mildly restricting calories and keeping an eye on what you eat is thus important if you want to lose weight and keep it off. However, you also need to exercise. If you do not make it a point to exercise every day, even if for a quarter of an hour only, you cannot expect to lose weight and keep a healthy weight.

Weight maintenance calls for a healthy lifestyle, not just a healthy diet. This means that you need to support what you eat by how much you get to move and exercise to further burn calories, and thus lose weight. Regular physical activity is the key to losing weight and keeping it off. So, try to make a habit of going for a brisk walk in the morning, or after your evening meal, or if you do not like going outdoors, invest in a treadmill or enrol in a gym.
You could also start practising a particular sport, and this will be even more advantageous as you would be losing weight while having fun and enjoying a new hobby. You will be amazed at the results you can achieve in a relatively short period of time!
Coupling a healthy diet with a daily exercise routine could work wonders in helping you lose weight and it will also enable you to maintain a healthy weight.
